Honda CR-Z to Debut at Tokyo Motor Show

Honda CR-Z concept The Honda CR-Z is perhaps one of automaker’s most highly anticipated vehicles in the foreseeable future. Financial constrains have stalled plenty of vehicles under development, including the replacement for the NSX supercar. But it appears that Honda is continuing to work on the CR-Z hybrid sports car, which is due to make its debut in October at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor, the Honda CR-Z is expected to produce about 140 horsepower. Honda Financing St Louis says this front-wheel drive vehicle will also feature a fuel efficient continuously variable transmission. Already it’s clear that the CR-Z is intended to be the successor to the popular Honda CRX.

There are rumors that the Honda CR-Z could also be powered by a larger 1.8-liter four cylinder as well. Washington DC Honda dealers suggest the larger engine may be destined for the U.S., while other markets will get a more fuel efficient engine. Either way, the model is being designed and engineered by Honda’s European design studio which according to Honda New York may indicate the car’s potential among European car buyers.

The upcoming CR-Z is expected to be similar to the original concept car that was revealed in 2007 (pictured above). With its oversized grille and bold, wedge-like shape, one Honda dealer Los Angeles expects the Honda CR-Z will likely retain this aggressive look and hatchback design. Needless to say, the design is definitely reminiscent of the sport CRX compact.
